The present subject matter provides an effervescent composition comprising calcium carbonate, an edible acid, and a first sugar. It also provides an edible composition comprising an edible casing. The edible casing comprises a second sugar, liquid glucose, an edible acid, water, and an acid salt of an alkali metal. The casing may be coated with the effervescent composition or encase a void which may be filled by the effervescentcomposition. It also provides a kit comprising the edible composition and the edible casing. It also provides a process for preparing the effervescent composition, the edible composition, and the edible casing.
