PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal can for preserving a food product sterilized by heat treatment after closing the can by using an optimized quantity of a material.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a metal can 40 which is used for preserving a food product sterilized by heat treatment after closing the can, which includes an integral body forming a bottom 41 and a side wall 43 of the can, and a lid mounted on the body so as to seal the body, and in which the minimum thickness of the side wall 43 is 20% to 60% of the thickness of the center of the bottom 41. According to the present invention, the height of the can 40 is 1.5 to 3.5 times the width thereof.
