Ophthalmic composition for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases, containing a complex ester of an anti-inflammatory lipoid mediator, which is the reaction product of an anti-inflammatory lipoid mediator and a polyol having a chain length of from 4 to 10 carbon atoms； iodine delivery system； the composition is practically acid free. 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the ester is present in a therapeutically effective amount. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is substantially free of fatty acids. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition contains 10% by weight or less of an acid form of an anti-inflammatory lipoid mediator. The composition of claim 4, wherein the composition contains 5% by weight or less of an acid form of an anti-inflammatory lipoid mediator. A composition according to claim 5, wherein the composition contains 1% by weight or less of an acid form of an anti-inflammatory lipoid mediator. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the ester is present in an amount of from about 0.01% to 5.0% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The composition of claim 7, wherein the ester is present in an amount of from about 0.025% to 0.5% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The composition of claim 1, wherein the ester is selected from the group consisting of an esterified polyunsaturated fatty acid, an esterified resolvin or its metabolically stable analogue, an esterified protectin or its metabolically stable analogue, an esterified lipoxin or its metabolically stable analogue, esterified prostaglandin or its metabolically stable analogue1.
