PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a humectant, a cell activator, a bleaching agent or an antioxidant widely applicable to fields of an external preparation for the skin, a food and drink and the like by discovering an active ingredient having excellent humectant activities, cell-activating activities, bleaching activities or antioxidant activities.
SOLUTION: An extract of a plant of family Polemoniaceae having the excellent humectant activities, cell-activating activities, bleaching activities or antioxidant activities is used as the humectant, the cell activator, the bleaching agent or the antioxidant. The various compositions exhibiting the excellent humectant activities, cell-activating activities, bleaching activities or antioxidant activities can be provided by formulating the extract of the plant of the family Polemoniaceae with a composition of the external preparation for the skin, the food and drink or the like.
