При уборке зерновых культур зерноуборочной машиной осуществляют скашивание жаткой зерновой культуры, ее обмолот в молотильном устройстве и отделение зерна от соломы и половы с последующим разбрасыванием последних по полю. Дополнительно отделяют легковесные примеси в виде пыли и семян сорняков в аспирационной камере и направляют их в дробильное устройство. Воздух очищается на фильтрах и повторно используется для очищения зернового вороха. Вентилятор, обеспечивающий поступление пыли и семян сорняков в аспирационную камеру, установлен за решетами под соломотрясом.
