PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underpants type absorbent article which is easily pulled up to the waist of a wearer, which allows an absorbent body to reliably adhere to the crotch part of the wearer, and to which a handle is firmly attached.SOLUTION: The underpants type absorbent article 100 includes: an absorbent body part 10 which has a top sheet 4, a back sheet 6, and an absorbent body 2 and covers the crotch part of the wearer from front and rear an exterior sheet 20 which has side sheets 8, a front area 21 and a back area 22 that are extending in the circumference of a body part and which forms an expansible waist part opening 101 and a pair of leg part openings 102, 103 and the handle 30 which arranged on the front side and/or back side of the exterior sheet and extending in a horizontal direction, whose both ends are welded to the exterior sheet. Both side edges of the front area and back area have superimposition parts 23 so as to be connected. The top sheet and the back sheet are each extended in a front and rear direction from the absorbent body. The handle is welded to a region R where the side sheets are superimposed on the top sheet within an extension part.
