The present invention relates, in general, to human immunodeficiency virus(HIV), and in particular to a vaccine for HIV-1 and to methods of making andusingsame. Also described are immunogens, which may be used for generating animmuneresponse in a patient. In embodiments, such immunogens include immunogens ofthefirst and second variable regions (V1V2) of HIV-1 env gp120. Also described isacomposition comprising such an immunogen and a carrier and/or an adjuvant. Inembodiments, such immunogens or compositions may be used for inducingantibodiesto the V1V2 region of HIV-1 env gp120 in a subject.
