A monitoring system comprises an intra- vascular support device and a sensor mounted to the support device and projecting into the vessel. The sensor generates a signal which is dependent on the level of deformation of a free end. The sensor signal is interpreted to enable detection of changes in the length of a deformable part of the sensor thereby to determine a level of bio-layer formation and also determine a level of flow. The sensor remains able to detect flow even when a bio-layer is formed and it can also detect the presence (and thickness) of the bio-layer, because part of the sensor becomes rigid when constrained by the bio-layer.Un système de surveillance comprend un dispositif de support intra-vasculaire et un capteur monté sur le dispositif de support et faisant saillie dans le vaisseau. Le capteur génère un signal qui dépend du niveau de déformation d'une extrémité libre. Le signal de capteur est interprété pour permettre la détection de changements dans la longueur d'une partie déformable du capteur, ce qui permet de déterminer un niveau de formation de bio-couche et de déterminer également un niveau de flux. Le capteur reste capable de détecter un flux même lorsqu'une bio-couche est formée et il peut également détecter la présence (et l'épaisseur) de la bio-couche, car une partie du capteur devient rigide lorsqu'elle est contrainte par la bio-couche.
