The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a zirconiumoxide prosthesis, said zirconium oxidebeing stabilized, which proces comprises the following steps: a) compacting azirconium oxide powder at a pressure of at least45 MPa to an object of a desired form, b) impacting an etchable medium intothe surface, c) optionally working the object to a finalshape, d) sintering the body at a temperature of above 117O0C to transferzirconium oxide into a tetragonal crystalline structure, and e) etching the etchable medium using hydrofluoric acid to remove themedium and impart a micromechanical retentionsurface. The invention also relates to a prosthesis prepared by this process.
