PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition of pegylated-particles comprising a drug, which is stable upon lyophilization or freezing.SOLUTION: There is provided a use of a polymeric excipient, specifically a polyvinyl alcohol, optionally in conjunction with sugar, as a cryoprotectant to prevent aggregation of PEG-containing particles. There is also provided a PEG-containing particle comprising such a polymeric excipient. In one aspect, there is provided a method for preparing a lyophilized or frozen preparation of a composition comprising particles comprising a drug. Here, the particles are coated with PEG.
