The present invention relates to a cutting device and a method for cutting a plant stem. The cutting device comprises : - a handle (20, 24)； a hook part (4, 10) coupled to the handle and defining a recess (6) which is open in a passage direction for the purpose of receiving the plant stem in the recess； and a blade (14) with a cutting surface displaceable in a cutting direction (A, B) substantially perpendicularly of the passage direction (C), relative to the hook part or with the hook part relative to the handle, wherein the cutting surface of the blade is arranged at an angle relative to the passage direction such that in use the plant stem is severed at an angle.
