PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new agent for labeling fishes, using a material of which the safety to human beings has been confirmed, and to provide a method for labeling the fishes of a method that will not present concern, from the point of the safety of foods by using the labeling agent, and which is carried out with the cost suppressed so as to be lower than that of the conventional types.
SOLUTION: The agent for labeling the fishes comprises a cochineal dye, a rack dye or a gromwell dye, or a chemical comprising any one of these as an active ingredient. The method for labeling the fishes includes soaking of fertilized eggs, or of the fries, and the labeling-target fish in a labeling solution, in which the labeling agent is dissolved to dye the hard tissues (otoliths, spines, scales or the like) thereof, and is suitable for the labeling of red sea bream, Inimicus japonicus, flatfish, tiger puffer,or the like.
