PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a light source unit common using existing equipment.
SOLUTION: An endoscope system 10 is provided with the switching unit 17 for switching processor devices 12 and 13 to be used. When power is supplied to the endoscope system 10, the system control part 59 of the switching unit 17 determines which of the system control part 44 of the processor device 12 and the system control part 49 of the processor device 13 the system control part 54 of the light source unit 14 is to communicate with. When the identification information of an endoscope 11 is acquired through the processor device 12, the system control part 59 of the switching unit 17 determines that the system control part 54 of the light source unit 14 is to communicate with the system control part 44 of the processor device 12. In the meantime, when the identification information of the endoscope 11 is acquired through the processor device 13, the system control part 59 of the switching unit 17 determines that the system control part 54 of the light source unit 14 is to communicate with the system control part 49 of the processor device 13.
