SOLUTION: An endoscope system 10 is provided with a switching unit 16 for switching the light source units 13 and 14 to be used. When power is supplied to the endoscope system 10, the system control part 59 of the switching unit 16 determines which of the system control part 49 of the light source unit 13 and the system control part 50 of the light source unit 14 the system control part 44 of the processor device 12 is to communicate with. When the identification information of an endoscope 11 is acquired through the light source unit 13, the system control part 59 of the switching unit 16 determines that the system control part 44 of the processor device 12 is to communicate with the system control part 49 of the light source unit 13. In the meantime, when the identification information of the endoscope 11 is acquired through the light source unit 14, the system control part 59 of the switching unit 16 determines that the system control part 44 of the processor device 12 is to communicate with the system control part 50 of the light source unit 14.
