A feature amount image is generated on a frequency spectrum approximated by a polynomial such that two spectrum intensities respectively corresponding to two frequencies included in the polynomial are associated with different visual information. Thus, the feature amount image is generated based on information of the frequency spectrum having a characteristic according to the tissue characterization.
