The present invention relates to a novel mannitol-producing strain in genus Leuconostoc, isolated from traditional Korean fermented foods. The present invention further relates to a lactobacillus starter including the strain, a method for producing kimchi using the strain, and the kimchi produced by the method. According to the present invention, a Leuconostoc mesenteroides WiKim33 strain exhibits outstanding mannitol productivity, and thus can be useful as a lactobacillus starter for producing fermented food products.
