In this disposable diaper (10) a rear waist region (14) comprises: a band shaped region (skin contacting region) (23) that is located on the skin opposing surface side and that extends along the lateral direction (X) and a pocket (30) that is located on the non skin opposing surface side opposes the band shaped region (23) in the front to rear direction in a central section in the lateral direction (X) and is capable of opening downward. The pocket (30) is defined by: a pocket outside region (43) that extends upward from the crotch region (15) side a pocket inside region (42) that opposes both the pocket outside region (43) and the band shaped region (23) in the front to rear direction is contiguous to the pocket outside region (43) via a bending section (33) extending along the lateral direction (X) and connects with the band shaped region (23) by extending downward from the bending section (33) and pocket side regions (32) that are formed on respective side sections of the pocket inside and outside regions (42 43) and are folded inward in the lateral direction (X).
