The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating cancer containing a marine algae Sargassum thunbergii extract as an active ingredient. The Sargassum thunbergii extract is obtained by undergoing extraction using a solvent mixture of acetone and methylene chloride, and induces apoptosis in U87MG glioblastoma, thereby inhibiting proliferation of cancer cells. Accordingly, the Sargassum thunbergii extract can be applied as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cancer as well as a health food composition for preventing ameliorating cancer.본 발명은 해조류 지충이(Sargassum thunbergii) 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 조성물에 관한 것으로, 아세톤과 메틸렌 클로라이드 혼합 용매를 사용하여 추출된 지충이 추출물은 U87MG 교모세포종에서 세포 사멸을 유도함으로써 암세포 증식에 억제 활성을 보였으며, 상기 지충이 추출물은 암 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물로 응용되어 사용될 수 있다. 또한, 상기 지충이 추출물은 암 예방 또는 개선용 건강식품 조성물로도 활용될 수 있다.
