A computer implemented method for processing 3D fetal ultrasound images is provided.A 3D fetal ultrasound image is acquired (either collected or received from memory) to detect a spine in the image.This allows the first reference axis to be defined.A second reference axis is defined perpendicular to the first reference axis and the 3D fetal ultrasound image is updated (e.g., rotated in a 3D space) using first and second reference axes and upper and lower (elevation) direction detection.This provides normalization of image orientation, and consequently, the machine learning approach can identify Landes marks better in new images.３Ｄ胎児超音波画像を処理するためのコンピュータ実装された方法が提供される。３Ｄ胎児超音波画像が取得され（収集されるかメモリから受信されるかのいずれか）、該画像内で脊椎が検出される。これは、第１の基準軸が画成されることを可能にする。第１の基準軸に対して垂直に第２の基準軸が画成され、第１及び第２の基準軸並びに上／下（仰角）方向検出を用いて３Ｄ胎児超音波画像が更新される（例えば、３Ｄ空間内で回転される）。これは、画像の向きの正規化を提供し、その結果、機械学習アプローチが、新たな画像内で、より良好にランドマークを識別することができる。
