PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an algorithm for better and more speedy convergence.SOLUTION: An X-ray image processing apparatus according to the embodiment includes an acquisition unit, a processing unit, and a display control unit. The acquisition unit acquires projection data obtained by detecting X-rays transmitted through a subject by rotating a plurality of detector elements around the subject. The processing unit: iteratively executes an image update process, using the conjugate gradient of an objective function based on the projection data for images representing X-ray attenuation in an image volume reconstructed from the projection data； when determining that a restart criterion is satisfied, resets the conjugate gradient and executes an image update process, and when determining that the restart criterion is not satisfied, determines whether or not to terminate the image update process； and when determining to terminate the image update process, outputs the current update image as a confirmed image, and when determining not to terminate the image update process, continues the image update process and the determination of the restart criterion.
