PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition comprising oxidatively or enzymatically modified synthetic secretoglobin. A novel composition of recombinant human CC10 proteins was generated by chemically modifying pure proteins in vitro. Several new synthetic preparations containing chemically modified isoforms of rhCC10 have been produced by a process utilizing reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. These preparations contain a novel isoform of rhCC10 that is characterized by enhanced or altered biological properties compared to the unmodified protein. Preparations containing novel isoforms are based on the novel CC10 to identify and characterize naturally occurring isoforms of native CC10 proteins from blood or urine and ultimately to determine patient disease state. It can be used as a standard for measuring biomarkers. These preparations can also be used to treat respiratory conditions, autoimmune conditions, inflammatory conditions, and other medical conditions that are not effectively treated with unmodified proteins.
