The present invention relates to an OsHIR1 gene for increasing heavy metal stress resistance and heavy metal absorption of a plant and to use of the same. A plant in which a gene for coding an OsHIR1 protein is overexpressed exhibits a phenotype that is insensitive to arsenic and cadmium, has more excellent root growth than a control group plant grown under the same conditions, and has a remarkably reduced arsenic and cadmium absorption amount. Accordingly, the expression of a gen for coding an OsHIR1 protein in a plant is adjusted, thereby increasing heavy metal resistance and productivity and developing a safe plant having reduced heavy metal absorption.본 발명은 식물의 중금속 스트레스 내성 증가 및 중금속 흡수를 감소시키는 OsHIR1 유전자 및 이의 용도에 관한 것으로, OsHIR1 단백질을 코딩하는 유전자가 과발현된 식물체는 비소 및 카드뮴에 둔감한 표현형을 나타내고, 동등한 조건에서 키운 대조구 식물에 비해 뿌리 생장이 우수하며, 식물의 비소 및 카드뮴 흡수량이 현저하게 감소하므로, 식물체에서 OsHIR1 단백질을 코딩하는 유전자의 발현 조절을 통해, 중금속 내성 및 생산성이 증가되고 중금속 흡수가 저하된 안전한 작물을 개발할 수 있다.
