The present application relates to methods of pre-treating wood, methods of drying wood, and methods of preserving wood. The methods include providing untreated wood, and applying an ionic liquid to the untreated wood. The methods also can include drying the wood after applying the ionic liquid to the wood. The methods also can include applying a preservative to the wood.
