A composition comprising 5-30%w/w skin tanning agent, 5-30%w/w oil, 1-5%w/w emulsifying and stabilising agent, 7-15%w/w anionic surfactant and water. Preferably, the skin tanning agent is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). The oil may be a natural fruit-based oil, mineral oil or silicone oil; preferably, sweet almond oil. The emulsifying and stabilising agent may be a wax or polymer, preferably a sodium acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer. The anionic surfactant may be a carboxylate, sulphate or sulfosuccinate; preferably diethylhexyl sodium sulfosuccinate. The composition may also comprise amphoteric surfactants, non-ionic surfactants, emollients, penetration enhancers or supplementary tanning agents. The composition is for use in the shower as a sunless or self-tanning product. Also disclosed is a method of delivering a tanning agent to the skin of a user comprising applying said composition to the skin and allowing the composition to remain in contact with the skin for up to 6 minutes. Preferably, the skin is subjected to warm water, for example by showering, before applying the composition. A self-tanning product comprising a skin tanning agent, wherein the product provides a difference in skin colour of ΔE>;2 when applied to the skin and remains in contact with the skin for up to 6 minutes is also disclosed.
