PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for breeding fish having high feed efficiency by developing a strain of fish having high feed efficiency and using the fish.SOLUTION: Feed efficiency in fish breeding is increased by adopting as breeding object fish, fish having the functional deficit of leptin or leptin receptor. Breeding of the fish having the functional deficit of leptin or leptin receptor is performed with an amount of feeding less than an amount of ingestion of bait in full feeding to corresponding wild-type fish. The fish having the functional deficit of leptin or leptin receptor is a leptin or leptin receptor defective homozygote. Since the leptin or leptin receptor defective homozygote fish has fertility, it is easy to proliferate by mating the male and female of the homozygote, and consequently, stable breeding of fish having high feed efficiency is achieved by using the leptin or leptin receptor defective homozygote fish.【課題】餌料効率の高い魚類の系統を開発し、当該魚類を用いた飼料効率の高い魚類の養殖方法を提供すること。【解決手段】養殖対象魚類としてレプチン又はレプチン受容体の機能的欠損を有する魚類を採用することにより、魚類養殖における飼料効率を上昇させる。一態様において、レプチン又はレプチン受容体の機能的欠損を有する魚類の飼育は、対応する野生型魚類の飽食給餌時の摂餌量を下回る給餌量で行われる。一態様において、レプチン又はレプチン受容体の機能的欠損を有する魚類は、レプチン又はレプチン受容体欠損ホモ接合体である。レプチン又はレプチン受容体欠損ホモ接合体魚類は妊性を有しているので、当該ホモ接合体の雌雄を交配することにより、容易に繁殖可能である。従って、レプチン又はレプチン受容体欠損ホモ接合体魚類を用いることにより、安定した飼料効率の高い魚類の養殖が達成される。【選択図】なし
