An improved method for the preparation of treprostinil and its derivatives is described. In contrast to the prior art, this method utilizes an enzymatic resolution that can be easily scaled to key intermediates to make these compounds. Another important improvement of the described method over the previous method is the regioselective Claisen rearrangement of the 5-allyloxy-benzaldehyde precursor, which is facilitated by a bromo substituent at the 2-position.
