A method of treating cancer in an individual, comprising administering to this individual an effective amount of a composition comprising nanoparticles that comprise rapamycin or a derivative thereof and a carrier protein. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is an early stage cancer, non-metastatic cancer, primary cancer, advanced cancer, locally progressive cancer, metastatic cancer, remission cancer, cancer in the adjuvant setting, cancer in a neoadjuvant setting, or cancer, by creatures that are not amenable to hormone therapy. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is a solid tumor. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is a plasmacytoma. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is selected from the group consisting of multiple myeloma, renal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, and breast cancer. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is not colon cancer. The method of claim 1, wherein one or more symptoms of this cancer are reduced. The method of claim 1, wherein the cancer is delayed. The method of claim 1, wherein the amount of rapamycin or a derivative thereof in an effective amount of this composition is in the range of about 180 mg to about 270 mg. The method of claim 9, wherein the amount of rapamycin or a derivative thereof in an effective amount of this composition is approximately 216 mg. The method of claim 1, wherein the rapamycin or its derivative is administered parenterally. The method of claim 1, wherein rapamycin or a derivative thereof is administered intravenously. The method of claim 1, wherein the taxane is not administered to this individual. The method of claim 13, wherein rapamycin or a derivative thereof is the only pharmaceutically active ag1.
