PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weed-proof material which shows a short hardening time and has a high initial strength development property, and a method of using the same.SOLUTION: (1) A weed-proof material containing CaO-MgO-Al2O3 based substance that has CaO of 25.0-35.0% by weight, Al2O3 of 55.0-68.0% by weight, MgO of 2.0-7.0% by weight, V of 0.1-2.0% by weight, and S of 0.1-0.7% by weight and does not have free magnesia, Li-salt, and soil. (2) The weed-proof material with a Blaine specific surface area of the CaO-MgO-Al2O3 based substance according to (1) of 2000-6000 cm2/g. (3) Further, the weed-proof material according to (1) or (2) containing calcium sulfate. (4) A method of using a weed-proof material for covering by spreading one of the weed-proof materials according to (1)-(3) on the ground and spraying water over it.
