The present invention relates to a toothpaste composition containing a medicinal plant extract, and to a method for producing the same. More specifically, the toothpaste composition has effects of treating periodontal diseases and removing oral smells by including a sword bean extract, a Rumex crispus extract, and an asarabacca extract as active ingredients. The toothpaste composition comprising a sword bean extract, a Rumex crispus extract, and an asarabacca extract at a specific combination ratio according to the present invention shows strong antibacterial activities against Streptococcus mutans, which is dental caries causative bacteria, and porphyromonas gingivalis which is gum disease causative bacteria. In particular, when a Penthorum chinense Pursh extract is further added to the three kinds of extracts to produce a toothpaste composition, an antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori pathogens is ensured, and thus the composition can be useful as a new functional toothpaste composition having effects of alleviating (or preventing) gum diseases and removing oral smells.
