There is provided a modified release pharmaceutical dosage form for the delivery of the therapeutically active pharmaceutical ingredient wherein the dosage form comprises a swelllable core cornprising therapeutically active pharmaceutical ingredient and one or more swellable hydrophilic polymers, one or more rate controlling polymeric coating(s) surrounding the core wherein the core upon contact with gastrointestinal fluids swells and exerts a pressure which causes partial disruption of the rate controlling coating surrounding the core and modified release is achieved by the combination of swellability and rate controlling ability of polymer in core and area of disruption of rate controlling polymer surrounding the core.
