The present invention relates to transgenic rice capable of producing high quality rice under nitrogen-deficient conditions. More specifically, the present invention relates to transgenic rice in which OsASN1 gene is overexpressed, and a method for producing rice using the same under nitrogen-deficient conditions. By using the transgenic rice of the present invention, it is possible to have a high yield of grains and to produce rice having a high nitrogen content and high protein content without using a nitrogen fertilizer which causes environmental problems, even when cultivated in a conventional rice paddy or nitrogen-deficient paddy.
