Provided herein are methods for identifying individuals diagnosed with a cell proliferative disorder that would benefit from treatment with a telomerase inhibitor compound. Further provided herein are methods for treating these individuals with telomerase inhibitor compounds. The method includes identifying an individual who would benefit from the treatment based on the average relative length of telomeres in cancer cells from the individual.
