The circuit (6) has a reversible hydraulic machine (14) and control valves (58, 64) for switching between rapid motion and force motion of a piston (4). An outer return surface and an extending surface are switched into regeneration for the rapid motion by the valves. The outer return surface and an inner return surface are interconnected for the force motion by the valves. A shutoff valve (74) is provided in a pressurized agent flow path between the machine and the extending surface. A switching valve (70) is provided in the path between the machine and the inner return surface. The control valves are 2/2-way valves. The hydraulic machine is a hydraulic pump. An independent claim is also included for a hydraulic axle.
