PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for accessing and treating the region of a body.SOLUTION: If an endoscopic system 100 having an automatically controlled proximal part 106 and a selectively operable distal part 104 is used, it can be generally advanced into the body through an opening. The distal part 104 is selectively operated so as to form a curve selected along a desired passage avoiding the contact with the tissue in the body and the proximal part 106 is automatically controlled so as to form the selected curve of the distal part 104. Thus, the endoscopic system 100 can be used for accessing to various regions of the body generally difficult in access and treatment using conventional surgical technique because it is not restricted by a "straight line" requirement.
