The method comprises circulating drying air in a drying chamber, where the drying air is brought in contact with sludge (2) and the circulation of the drying gas is regulated by a control (12) under consideration of the temperature of the sludge. The temperature at the surface of the sludge is determined as surface temperature, which is determined by infrared (IR)-sensor (13). The circulation of the drying gas is carried out by ventilator (8), a blower (9) and/or a ventilation flap (10) and is started, interrupted and/or ended in dependence of the temperature of the sludge and/or its change. The method comprises circulating drying air in a drying chamber, where the drying air is brought in contact with sludge (2) and the circulation of the drying gas is regulated by a control (12) under consideration of the temperature of the sludge. The temperature at the surface of the sludge is determined as surface temperature, which is determined by infrared (IR)-sensor (13). The circulation of the drying gas is carried out by a ventilator (8), a blower (9) and/or a ventilation flap (10) and is started, interrupted and/or ended in dependence of the temperature of the sludge and/or its change. The sludge is spread on a conveyor band and is transported through the drying chamber. The conveyor speed of the conveyor band is regulated in dependence of the temperature of the sludge and/or its change. Turning device for the sludge and/or a heat source such as UV- and/or IR-emitter, a heat exchanger, a heating plate and/or solar radiator are used during drying the sludge. The layer thickness of the sludge is determined and is considered by the control during regulation of the circulation of the drying gas, the conveyor speed of the conveyor band and the control of the turning device. An independent claim is included for a plant for drying sludge.
