PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ophthalmic photographing apparatus capable of carrying out appropriate focus adjustment with a simple configuration.
SOLUTION: The ophthalmic photographing apparatus comprises an illuminating optical system for illuminating a predetermined part of a subject eye, a light receiving optical system for receiving reflected light from the subject eye, a subject eye image acquiring means for acquiring a subject eye image on the basis of a light receiving signal from the light receiving optical system, a histogram acquiring means for acquiring histogram information of the subject eye or histogram information acquired by differential processing of the subject eye image, a focus condition calculating means for calculating a focus condition evaluation value using the maximum luminance value in the histogram information and having a pixel number of or more than a predetermined proportion of the whole image, a sampling means for sampling the evaluation value calculated by the focus condition calculating means while moving the position of a focusing optical member, and a driving means for determining a focus condition on the basis of the sampling result and driving the focusing optical member to a focus position.
