Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to a composition for thetreatment of a muscle degenerative disease in humans, the compositioncomprisingbiologically active follistatin； wherein the composition is manufactured froma processcomprising: providing raw liquid egg, subjecting the raw liquid egg to a stepofpreservation while maintaining the temperature at or below 38° C,wherein the step ofpreservation is selected from (a) subjecting the liquid egg yolk, whole egg oregg whiteto a high pressure treatment of at least 4500 bar for at least 1 min, (b)subjecting theliquid egg yolk, whole egg or egg white to a pulsed electric field treatmentof at least 5kV/cm at a flow rate of 30 L/h, or (c) a combination of the high pressuretreatment andthe pulsed electric field treatment to provide a preserved liquid egg yolk,whole egg oregg white.
