PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arrangement of lighting control circuits and a wiring between the circuits best suited for a capsule endoscope.SOLUTION: The capsule endoscope comprises a flexible substrate on which the following substrate units are arranged in a row and integrally molded in the order of description: a lighting substrate unit having a plurality of light emitting elements mounted on a lighting part for projecting light to a subject a first wiring substrate unit forming the wiring for signals transmitted between the lighting substrate unit and an image pickup element substrate unit the image pickup element substrate unit having an image pickup element mounted thereon and a signal processing substrate unit having a signal processing unit mounted thereon. The capsule endoscope further comprises a lighting control circuit having: a lighting control signal output unit which outputs lighting control signals for controlling light emission of the light emitting elements mounted on the lighting part and a lighting drive unit which drives each of the light emitting elements in response to the lighting control signals inputted from the lighting control signal output unit.
