The present invention relates to a method of grafting a characterization compound to a polymer substrate containing carbon-hydrogen (C—H) bonds using clip chemistry. The method of the invention comprises coating the substrate with a characterization compound, irradiating it with a reaction light source and repeating this operation at least once.
