A self-sanitising composition that is used to form water-based sanitiser and particularly, it is an anti-nanobes, anti-microbial and anti-TVOC with long term effect. Said sterilising compositions comprise titanium dioxide, silica-based binder, an ioniser compound and an antimicrobial cold catalyst which may comprise nano-silver or nano-platinum. Preferably tin oxide is added to this composition to create an anti-static effect. An alternative disinfectant composition comprises TiO2, silica-based binder, tin oxide and an ioniser compound or boron silicate containing compounds. An example of an ioniser compound is tourmaline. The silica-based binder may be silicon dioxide and may comprise at least two particle sizes. The titanium dioxide may also have at least two particle sizes. The pH range of the composition may be 5.5 to 7.0. A method of preparing the composition comprises the steps of preparing silica-based binder with at least two particle sizes, mixing binder with tin oxide and allowing for a stable reaction, adding antimicrobial cold catalyst and adding titanium dioxide with at least two particle sizes. The method may comprise further steps such as controlling pH level and adding ioniser compound.
