PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet light absorber being highly soluble in water and having an excellent ultraviolet light absorptivity in an ultraviolet light wavelength region, without having an absorption in visible light region, and also having high stability and safety, and a skin preparation for external use comprising the same.SOLUTION: This ultraviolet light absorber comprises a pyridine compound expressed by formula (I) and/or its salts. Also the ultraviolet light absorbing composition is characterized by comprising the pyridine compound and/or its salts. Further, the skin preparation for external use is characterized by containing the pyridine compound and/or its salt. Furthermore, the skin preparation for external use is characterized by containing the pyridine compound and/or its salt.
