Recombinant insect allergens (I) having reduced immunoglobulin E (IgE) reactivity and allergenicity, are new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) producing essentially pure recombinant insect venom allergens (Ia) though preparation as inclusion bodies (IB), in bacterial cells; denaturing IB, then conversion to soluble, monomeric form with different folding conformations by dialysis; (2) recombinant wasp venom allergens (Ib) produced by method (1); and (3) use of recombinant (I) with normal allergenicity and IgE reactivity for in vitro diagnosis of insect sting allergies. ACTIVITY : Anti-allergic; immunomodulatory. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given in the source material.
