PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sterilizing vegetables and fruits that can suppress the occurrence of mold.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for sterilizing vegetables and fruits in which vegetables and fruits are retained in the air by means of a packaging medium 3 and a light containing ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of 260 nm to 290 nm is irradiated from the circumferential direction of the vegetables and fruits to sterilize microorganisms adhering to the skins of vegetables and fruits.
