An Apparatus (9) for tracking an animate being (1), in particular a bird, comprising a tracker case (2) attachable to the animate being, and a monitoring device (6), is described in which that the tracker case (2) comprises receiver means (3) for receiving position and time data from a number of positioning system satellites (4), and transmitter means (5) for sending said position and time data to a receiver (10) of the monitoring device (2) by means of data communication satellites (7). This allows for a comfortable and reliable search of animate beings (1).
