An absorbent article 100 comprising a top sheet and backing sheet 300 surrounding an absorbent core 200, the top sheet comprising 20-95% hydrophobic cotton and 5-80% hydrophilic cotton based on the total weight of the top sheet. The absorbent core may comprise at least 50% by weight of one or more non-synthetic absorbent material that may be cotton. The top sheet may have a basis weight of 20-80 g m-2 and the absorbent core may have a basis weight of 100-500 g m-2. The absorbent article may be a sanitary napkin, incontinence pad or breast pad. Also disclosed is a sanitary napkin comprising a top sheet, back sheet and absorbent core, the absorbent core having a modified hourglass shape. The sanitary napkin may have wings 400 extending laterally either side of a neck portion. The sanitary napkin may comprise the top sheet and absorbent core of the first invention.
