A portable medicament dispensing device having a mechanism which is notsusceptibleto jamming for dispensing the medication to a user. The device employs acoupling for couplingthe relative motion between reciprocating body members housing the ancillarycomponents and abarrel plunger associated with the syringe. One embodiment provides a pivotingcouplingwhereas an alternate uses a rack and pinion system. The advantage ofsimplifying suchmechanisms results in a structure which has smooth unencumbered motion withfewer parts toavoid mechanical jamming during use. In particular, in one embodiment thedevice has a firstand second body which are coaxially mounted for reciprocal movement as well asa drivemember connected between the first and second body members for effecting thereciprocalmovement a coupling device on each of the body members and with the drivemeans completesthe device. In use, upon reciprocal movement of the first body member and thesecond bodymember the needle is exposed and the plunder is moved within the barrel of thesyringe fordischarging the medicament.
