Compositions and methods are provided for uniformly coating or glazing the dried kibble in order to improve the deliciousness of the dried pet food kibble without compromising the crunch properties of the dried pet food kibble over time. The coating composition includes water and at least one of gum or modified starch. The coating composition is one of a flavoring, coloring, emulsified or granular meat, emulsified or granular fruit or vegetable, antioxidant, vitamin, mineral, non-proliferating microorganism, dietary fiber or prebiotic. Additional raw materials such as one or more may be included. In one embodiment, the coating composition can include dextrose and / or glycine.
