PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oviposition inhibitor for a pest insect of clothes, capable of protecting the clothes from damage by the pest insect of the clothes, especially from insect damage by a larva by effectively inhibiting the oviposition of the pest insect of the clothes, and to provide a method for preventing the damage by the pest insect of the clothes by using the oviposition inhibitor.SOLUTION: The oviposition inhibitor for the pest insect of the clothes comprises a surfactant, preferably at least one kind selected from the group consisting of a nonionic surfactant and an anionic surfactant as an active ingredient.
