A fibre-reinforced article 10, eg a golf club/racquet shaft, hockey stick, etc, comprises a tubular body 12 and a plurality of first fibre braids 14 around the tubular body such that the first fibre braids have a first section 41 parallel to the axis of the tubular body and a second section 42 at a first angleαto the axis. The first fibre braids 14 are aligned with each other along the length of the tubular body and the tubular body may be hollow or solid. Preferably, the tubular body also has a plurality of second fibre braids 16 with a parallel section 64 and an angled section 65, in line with the sections of the first fibre braids 14, and both braids can be superimposed or woven to form a network. The first and second fibre braids 14, 16 may have further sections 43, 66 parallel to the axis and non-parallel sections (see figs 7, 9). The tubular body may taper (figs 10, 11), may have a transparent covering (18, fig 4), and may have an enlarged portion which has a network (see fig 11). The fibre braids enhance the resistance of the article to flexure and torsion and enhance the aesthetics of the article.
