An air barrier membrane can be used in the IV set to maintain a fluid column downstream of the membrane in the IV set, even after the fluid bag is emptied. By maintaining the fluid column downstream of the membrane, air is prevented from entering the tubing connecting the IV set to the vascular access device. For this reason, once the fluid bag is empty, a new fluid bag can be connected to the IV set without the need to refill the IV set. Thus, the clinician does not have to be present when the fluid bag is empty to ensure that air does not enter the tubing.空気遮断膜をＩＶセット内で用い、流体バッグが空になった後であっても、ＩＶセット内の膜の下流に流体柱を維持することができる。流体柱を膜の下流に維持することにより、ＩＶセットを血管アクセス器具に接続する配管へと空気が入るのを阻止する。このため、ひとたび流体バッグが空になっても、ＩＶセットを再充填する必要性なく、新たな流体バッグをＩＶセットに接続することができる。従って、臨床医は、空気が配管に入らないことを確実にするために流体バッグが空になっている時に居合わせる必要がない。
